Sažetak: Naseobinski sistem Grada Istočno Sarajevo karakterišu određene specifičnosti, a među njima se izdvaja i to da prostor nosi epitet grada, a većinski je ruralan. Čini ga 216 naseljenih mesta u 6 opština grada sa 59916 stanovnika po popisu 2013. godine. U radu će se najpre predstaviti neki od kriterijuma za definisanje urbanih i ruralnih područja i odrediti najbolji kriterijum za Grad Istočno Sarajevo, s obzirom na dostupne podatke. Cilj istraživanja je da se izvrši klasifikacija naseljenih mesta grada na urbana i ruralna.

Abstract: The settlement system of the City of East Sarajevo is characterized by certain specifics, and among them is the fact that the space carries the city’s epithet and is mostly rural. It consists of 216 populated places in 6 townships with 59916 inhabitants according to the 2013 census. The paper will first introduce some of the criteria for defining urban and rural areas and determine the best criteria for the City of East Sarajevo, given the available data. The aim of the research is to carry out the classification of urban settlements in urban and rural areas.
